LIFESTYLE

The Scandinavian Living Center offers residents a unique community-centered living experience. Every aspect of our offerings is influenced by our fundamental belief that age does not and should not limit one’s participation as a member of the community.

We have taken the best parts of the Scandinavian approach to elder care and created a community open to those from all cultures, religions and backgrounds. While Scandinavian principles are central to our philosophy, we see our diverse population as one of our strengths as a residential community.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

At the Scandinavian Living Center we are committed to offering a variety of on-site fitness and wellness programs and services. Regular exercise is considered one of the best ways to maintain health as we age. Our fully-equipped fitness center is where it all happens.

We offer

  • Individualized personal training with certified fitness instructor
  • Morning Stretch
  • Chair Yoga
  • Tai Chi
  • Massage Therapy
  • Balance and Strength Training

LIFE-ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

The Scandinavian Living Center encourages residents to participate in life-enriching recreational, cultural and social programs offered daily.

Some programs offered are

Game Hour (Scrabble, Boggle, Uno, Yahtzee)  •  Excursions to museums, gardens, parks, theaters    Restaurant Trips    Shopping Trips  •  Monthly Socials    Musical Performances    Lectures    Book Reviews    Art Shows

All-Day Dining

At the SLC, the dining room is always an inviting place for residents to share a meal with their neighbors. We recognize that balanced and delicious meals are not only important for health reasons, but also for the joy and comfort that food can bring. Mealtime is a wonderful social experience for our residents. In our sun-filled dining room, residents can indulge in a delicious meal or snack any time of the day, as many times as they want, from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm with our All-Day Dining menu. Giving residents the option to head down to the dining room at any time gives them the choice and independence that they’ve always enjoyed.

Cultural Center

Few assisted living centers can boast the robust and high-quality arts and cultural programming that we are fortunate to have at the Scandinavian Living Center. Our sister organization, the Scandinavian Cultural Center, is truly one of our most special amenities. The SCC hosts programs that are open to both SLC residents and the broader local community.

The Nordic Hall

The Nordic Hall at the Scandinavian Living Center is the primary performance and exhibition space for the Cultural Center. Inspired by the aesthetic of Swedish painter Carl Larssen, the hall was designed by CBT Architects and opened in the autumn of 2001. It is a beautiful and airy hall, ideal for art exhibitions as well as performances and lectures. The hall is equipped with a state-of-the-art audio-visual system and projection screen, accommodating an audience of 100.

The Nordic Hall houses a beautiful Steinway B grand piano, played by world-renowned artists and, occasionally, by one of our musically-talented residents.

The Scandinavian Library

The Scandinavian Library was founded in 1994 to be a meeting place for people from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland in the greater Boston area.

The Scandinavian Library is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization whose board is made up of representatives from the five Nordic countries.

Kaffestugan

The Kaffestugan coffee shop and bakery is open during Scandinavian Library hours on Saturdays, 10:00 to 2:00. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee and special Scandinavian treats or sandwiches while reading newspapers and magazines or catching up with friends.
