Our mission is to provide elders with the assistance they need to lead fulfilling, connected, and culturally-rich lives.
The Scandinavian Living Center (SLC) in Newton, Massachusetts is a nonprofit assisted living center taking an inspired approach to elder care. By adopting core Scandinavian principles, we have created a community where individuals from all cultures and backgrounds can lead connected, fulfilling lives.
We are committed to empowering elders by respecting their individual needs and providing exceptional care and support. Our dedicated, long-tenured staff members take the time to get to know every resident.
The SLC offers a comfortable, light-filled environment, designed in the Scandinavian architectural style. With only forty apartments, our assisted living center provides an intimate, family-like atmosphere that is hard to replicate in larger facilities. Over fifty percent of our space is dedicated to common area, including a fully equipped fitness center and a recently renovated dining room and café. These areas encourage connections between our residents and the broader community.
Our residents come from the Greater Boston area including Allston, Brighton, Brookline, Cambridge, Chestnut Hill, Newton, Waltham, Wellesley, Watertown, and other area towns.
Elders can stay involved in the community through activities, clubs, and on-site events. With a cultural center and a variety of amenities and services right in the building, the SLC is a welcoming place for everyone.

About the Scandinavian Charitable Society
The SLC is a part of the larger Scandinavian Charitable Society of Greater Boston. The Scandinavian Charitable Society has two distinct and complementary components: the Scandinavian Living Center (SLC) and the Scandinavian Cultural Center (SCC). The SLC’s programs are enhanced by the robust offerings of the SCC, located in the same building. The SCC houses a Scandinavian library, organizes a weekly pop-up Kaffestugan (café), and hosts events and programming celebrating Nordic culture that are open to both SLC residents and the broader local community.
