THE RECENT TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN CAUSED ME TO THINK ABOUT DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES OF DARKNESS AND LIGHT, both in natural and spiritual terms. Some people saw the eclipse in its totality—the sky turned dark. Most of us experienced the partial eclipse that allowed a tiny part of the sun to shine through. Even with this small fraction of sunlight, the entire sky remained bright.
