Cynthia Cummings and David Owens in Concert – Violin & Piano Duo

THURSDAY OCTOBER 23RD, 2025 at 2:30PM in the NORDIC HALL

Please join us for another exciting concert at SLC.  Violin & Piano Duo Cynthia Cummings and David Owens will be playing Chamber Music selections from Mozart, Brahms and Pizetti.

Violinist CYNTHIA CUMMINGS studied at the University of Michigan with Paul Makanowitzky, at the University of Southern California with Eudice Shapiro, and elsewhere with Burton Kaplan and Charles Castleman.
Associate Concertmaster of the Omaha Symphony for three years, Cynthia was also a Tanglewood Fellow for three summers. She served with the Thayer Symphony Orchestra in South Lancaster, MA, both as concertmaster and soloist. She was a founding member of the Arriaga String Quartet and has played with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra since 1987, as well as with other ensembles in and around Boston.
Her violin is a 1752 creation of the Spanish luthier Joseph Contreras.

Although he has been active mainly as a composer, DAVID OWENS has been an enthusiastic collaborative pianist as well, chamber music being a particular passion of his from his earliest years. Those early years saw David working with the likes of Brooks Smith (Heifetz’s longtime accompanist) at the Eastman School, and chamber-music giant Artur Balsam in New York. Violin music figured heavily in David’s father’s record collection. Works for violin and piano were among the first things he heard as a boy, and he has retained a special affinity for this medium ever since.
