Accordionist Elizabeth Steen Performs

Elizabeth Steen is a musician from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, based now in Boston. Growing up, she played classical
piano and soloed with the Pittsburgh Symphony at age 16. Mostly now an accordionist, she’s sung and played all manner of keyboards in many bands (more on that in discography) and covered some far corners of the world (actually round) by tour bus, plane, Winnebago and once on a fire truck (the official escort to Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace in Bakersfield CA.) Her first recording as an accordionist was on the Billy Bragg/Wilco collaboration tribute to Woody
Guthrie, “Mermaid Avenue.” She collaborates on many projects, in the studio and onstage, maintains a private teaching studio, and taught elementary school music in the Boston Public Schools for 15 years. She’s half of a duo called Famous Grouse with Jude Heichelbech, playing songs they’ve written. Her accordion repertoire spans music of many cultures and genres including swing, French, Balkan, Irish, Latin, Cajun, Zydeco, and it most certainly includes the Pennsylvania polka.
