The Scandinavian Living Center is designed to encourage physical fitness. For example, residents can walk around the inside perimeter of the building in any weather (thirteen times around is a mile).
In addition, we have a strong fitness program. The Fitness Room features a wide range of Keiser Equipment which are important tools for physical well-being and longevity.
Many of our residents participate in a healthy exercise program individually created by our Certified Fitness Instructor.
Held in a group setting twice a week, Morning Stretch is a seated exercise routine. It consists of basic movements that promote flexibility and increased range of motion.
This can be done by most people of any age or physical condition. It includes relaxation for body and mind as well as gentle stretches to release tension. Some of the benefits of yoga include an increase in alertness, balance, breathing, concentration, coordination, energy, endurance, and flexibility.
Tai Chi includes rhythmic patterns of movement that are coordinated with breathing to achieve a sense of inner calm. It helps loosen joints, build energy and improve circulation, balance and flexibility. It can be done sitting down or standing up.
A Massachusetts licensed massage therapist comes in to give complementary seated massages to the residents.
It is possible for residents to receive physical therapy services right at the Scandinavian Living Center. Tim Dreher and Associates, licensed therapists, offer therapy at the Center to the residents and to anyone from the surrounding community. Most major insurances are accepted.
